Best Answer: mail on mac is the the same as downloading from any server, delete the account and set it up again on mail using the new gmail password, or you can log onto the webserver and view your gmail account without downloading? What worked for me: in Mac Mail, send an email from the account where the password has been changed. Just send a test email to yourself, for example. Just send a test email to yourself, for example. A box pops up asking you to provide the Gmail SMTP password. I can not figure this out. Where did they hide the password for accounts? One (I have four) of my gmail accounts show the red circle, as offline, in Mail Preferences > Accounts > Account Information & Server Settings. The other three are fine. I am still receiving emails from this account, but I just tried today to send a couple of emails, but they are still in my Outbox. I can not locate where to go to change the password. Does anyone know where this setting has been hidden? I have checked Mail > Help 'change password', but both of those results, were not helpful. Any suggestions will be attempted, I really don't want to have to delete the account then add it back in. This is my personal emailbox for family and friends, going back to Aug 16, 06. I am using macOS 10.12.6, Mail ver. 10.3 (3273) Thanks in advance. Thanks for the reply, but in my Mail>Preferences>Accounts, Server Settings only shows 'Outgoing Mail Account' with the dropdown box to choose the outgoing server to use with that account.Curious, Bob, my Mail>Preferences>Accounts>Server Settings has two sections, one for Incoming and one for Outgoing. Both have a password section. The only account that does not have that option is the iCloud, which offers iCloud and two others, and when I click on the current setting 'iCloud' A box pops up with 'Edit Server List' where the other two servers show up and I can change the password there, too. Are you in an Admin account or Standard? ![]() It shouldn't make a difference, it's YOUR account. @pm-r; Thanks Patrick, that does seem to be the case. I'll just have to do it that way. So it seems like google, is allowed to access Keychain as needed. I will test, if I change my web gmail password and save it to keychain, if I will need to enter my password the next time I access it using Mail? Thanks also to everyone who helped me figure this out. PS-I just went and changed my gmail password, and as soon as I opened Mail, I got the 'change password' popup window. So, it doesn't look like gmail accesses Keychain, like I thought. I just need to remember to change (& save) the password through the web. Also, Google won't let me change the password back. UPDATE - SOLVED (October 5, 2014): Here's what I did: • Log into a new local account on your computer and sign into Gmail on Mail app. Choose to sync it across your devices • Uninstall Mail app from your problematic user account. • Reinstall Mail app and sign in using your Microsoft account, then click Accounts > Add an account > Other account (instead of Google). Choose IMAP, then enter your Gmail address and password.
